Renata Carvalho is a staff consultant at the Global Designing Cities Initiative. Trained as an Architect and Urbanist, she holds an MSc in Transport and City Planning from the University College London (Chevening scholarship) and a specialization in Sustainability of the Built Environment from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.
Her current practice is focused on street design and capacity building for walking and cycling in African cities, under the Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure. Her prior experience includes transport planning for active mobility at the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy - Africa, and architectural and urban design projects as a partner at Toca Arquitetura, Brazil. She has worked on sustainable architectural design, contributing towards a LEED-certified building, and streetscape redesigns for traffic calming and cycle infrastructure in Brazil and various African cities. Renata is based in London, UK.
