Introduction to Digital Techniques in Urban Design
About
The AUDA-IUD program aims to introduce Urban Design as an academic discourse to students and recent graduates of Architecture by briefly outlining concepts of Urban Design and it's interwoven premises with the physical, socio-economical, environmental and political fabric of a city. The sessions are structured to inform students in the coordinated learning of concepts, approaches, expressions, research techniques, and representational strategies of the pedagogy and practice of Urban Design. The program is further designed to assist students with a more profound understanding of the academic and professional possibilities ahead and the choices they can make.
Although, the program is designed for undergraduate students and college graduates of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Design, and Planning, we welcome students from all backgrounds who want to explore the myriad possibilities.
This edition, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Heritage Forum and NSDA, focuses on the theme of REVIVING WATERS - REKINDLING TRADITIONS. Rivers have historically shaped communities, crafts, and heritage, but ecological degradation now threatens these relationships. The course encourages participants to critically examine these dynamics and explore more integrated approaches to placemaking rather than treating heritage conservation in isolation.
A highlight of the program will be a live seminar on a case study in Kolkata, where researchers are exploring the connections between the Adi Ganga River and the revival of Terracotta traditions - including pottery and the production of Durga idols in Kalighat and Kumartuli, home to renowned terracotta temples. Participants will later engage with their own case examples, contributing to a global conversation on rivers, heritage, and placemaking.

60 to 90 minutes each with interactions, Seminars and presentations are 180 minutes

What is the maximum batch size?
The maximum batch size is 30. Registrations will be closed once the batch is full.
Can we register as a group?
Each individual has to register separately.
Do I need prior knowledge in any software to participate?
The program accommodates individuals with a variety of low to advanced digital skills.
Will materials be shared?
Readings, videos, articles, texts will be shared after sessions relating to the lectures.
Recordings and session lecture will not be shared.
What is the program exercise? Is it mandatory?
The exercise gives an opportunity for participants to work on a live urban design project (in groups) to test the various concepts, approaches
and strategies that will be discussed during the various sessions.
The program exercise is mandatory for issuance of a certificate at the end of the program.
